The Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Curriculum Services is responsible for planning, designing, and writing course content and assessments for specific FLVS course. The SME may also assist in reviewing internally or externally produced content and resources under the guidance of an FLVS Curriculum Specialist.

Skills / Requirements

For consideration for this position, candidates must meet all of the job requirements as listed below:


  • Bachelor's Degree; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Valid Florida Professional Teaching Certificate in assigned subject area

  • Experience:
  • One year teaching experience, preferably in an online environment

  • Knowledge, abilities and skills:
  • Possesses strong knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curriculum design
  • Possesses strong knowledge of online instructional design theories
  • Displays proven skills of all applicable and recommended FLVS computer applications
  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills
  • Possesses strong interpersonal, leadership, and motivation skills

  • Responsibilities Primary responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Develops content and assessments that meet state, national, and/or College Board standards while using sound and accepted curriculum pedagogical practices
  • Collaborates with the FLVS Curriculum Specialists to create innovative work for students
  • Reviews course and content data under the guidance of an FLVS Curriculum Specialist
  • Implements 21st century technology in FLVS content
  • Adheres to project timeline
  • Reviews externally produced content and resources under the guidance of an FLVS Curriculum Specialist
  • Provides outstanding customer service as measured by periodic surveys and performance reviews
  • Meets deadlines and handles diverse tasks simultaneously using prioritization
  • Works and collaborates with collaborators, Curriculum Specialist, Subject Matter Experts, Curriculum Innovation Specialist, and Application Development Specialist
  • Evaluates resources for applicability to projects
  • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrating respect for others
